WINNER AT LA FEMME!
MUSKRAT BOY OF GRIFFITH PARK WINS "BEST SHORT FILM" AWARD

On Sunday evening, The Muskrat Boy of Griffith Park won the Best Short Film award at LA Femme Film Festival in Los Angeles. Angela Bassett was there to receive an honorary award, as was Angela Kinsey, Maggie Wheeler, Loretta Devine, and Virginia Madsen. We received a fancy crystal award plus a gift bag with some great swag and had a fantastic time at the after party. Congrats team!

RAINDANCE FILM FESTIVAL LONDON, ENGLAND

On Sunday afternoon, we screened with five fantastic short films all centered around family relationships in a showcase called "Relative States." There were two Israeli films, a Swedish film, a film from the UK, and one from Canada. A truly international event! Lots of great movies to be seen at Raindance; it was a whirlwind week of controversial, inspiring, and off-beat inde films from all over the world. And don't forget lectures and tons of parties too. Here's a shot of the Apollo Theater where most of the screenings took place, right in Piccadilly Circus in central London.

DC SHORTS: A GREAT FESTIVAL

We had a great time last week at the DC Shorts Fest. We saw tons of fantastic short films and attended a plethora of informative events. And of course, those swingin' parties! THE MUSKRAT BOY OF GRIFFITH PARK screened with ten other short films, including GOD OF LOVE written by Luke Matheny who won a student Oscar for the film. We also chatted with Roger Ross Williams whose beautiful documentary MUSIC BY PRUDENCE won the Best Documentary Short Oscar last year. The doc is about Prudence, the lead singer of an Afro-fusion band called Liyana ("it's raining" in Ndebele). She lives in Zimbabwe and is in a wheel chair, born with a debilitating condition called arthrogryposis. The film is a fascinating exploration of her struggles against, and victories over, great odds. You can watch it on HBO on Demand and I recommend that you do! Elisabeth Stevens reviews festival films for the Sarasota Radio station WSRQ.com. She is a former art critic for The Baltimore Sun, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post and The Trenton Times. Here's what she wrote about about THE MUSRKAT BOY OF GRIFFITH PARK: "I was impressed by this tale of isolation and sexual ambiguity. The heroine is extremely talented in dramatizing her "petrified wood" heart, and the muskrat boy is engagingly Chaplinesque."

THE MUSKRAT BOY OF GRIFFITH PARK is an official selection of LA Femme International Film Festival, a fest that focuses on platforming films “by women for everyone.” The festival launched in 2005, when it became apparent that there was a need to enhance women behind the camera as directors, producers, and writers. As LA Femme moves into the next few years, it plans to expand its platform so that more women in the industry from around the world can have the benefit of taking their film to the next level through increased distribution outlets, more key positions in the entertainment industry, and more recognition as artistic creators emerging as leaders in the industry.

18th RAINDANCE FILM FESTIVAL THE EUROPEAN PREMIERE OF MUSKRAT BOY IN LONDON September 29 through October 10, 2010

THE MUSKRAT BOY OF GRIFFITH PARK is an official selection of the 18th Raindance Film Festival. Raindance is Europe's largest independent film festival and for 12 hectic days in central London it showcases short and feature films from all over the world as well as organising workshops, panels, and live events. Over the years, Raindance has hosted such guests and filmmakers as Christopher Nolan, Shane Meadows, Ken Loach, Andrea Arnold, Marky Ramone, Iggy Pop, Quentin Tarantino, Kerry Fox, Armando Ianucci, and Billy Childish.
